Do I need to get a separate merchant account to use the Helcim Gateway?

No. The Helcim Gateway is a complete processing solution which includes a Visa and MasterCard merchant account backed by Helcim's merchant services. This solution offers great value to merchants because it incorporates both the gateway and the merchant account all-in-one. The Helcim Gateway cannot be used with any other merchant account provider.

Do I need a web programmer to use the Helcim Gateway?

This depends on how you will be using the gateway. If you are using a third-party shopping cart that is hosted, the gateway will be built-in directly into the shopping cart's settings. All you will need to do is enter your merchant ID and token ID into the configurations. If you are using a compatible open-source shopping cart that requires a payment module, some basic understanding of how to copy files on the server's appropriate folders will be required.

If you wish to have the payments directly on your website through your own custom checkout page, a web programmer proficient in a scripting language such as PHP or ASP.NET is required to integrate the HTTP-POST communication between your website and the Helcim Gateway.

Does the Gateway have a Virtual Terminal?

Yes. When logged in, you can perform manual transactions as needed using the built-in Virtual Terminal.

What needs to be on my website to apply?

In order to meet Visa and MasterCard's policies for online processing, your website must meet the requirements below. During the application process, these can be in a development environment.

1. Website shows the products/services being purchased and their pricing.
2. A privacy policy is displayed.
3. The delivery/return/refund policy of the merchant is displayed.
4. A telephone number is displayed for customers to contact merchant.
5. A secured checkout form is present with a valid SSL certificate (https)*

* The online checkout with SSL certificate can be validated after the merchant account approval. This gives you the chance to get approved and then integrate the online gateway into your website's secured checkout. If using a third-party shopping cart, the provider's SSL certificate will be used for validation.
