Understanding Phishing
Phishing is a fast growing computer crime, where assailants try to trick users into revealing sensitive information such as their username, password and credit card details. Over 1.2 million computer users were affected by phishing in the United States in 2006.
The most common type of Phishing is the forgery of a legitimate website. Assailants create a website that is visually identical to that of the legitimate company's, and encourage users to input sensitive information for them to steal.
How can I protect myself from Phishing?
Protecting yourself from phishing is very simple. Always enter the website address in your browser manually and never click on link claiming to forward you to the website or login page.
If you have received an email from someone identifying themselves as an online bank or online payment system, do not click on any links in the email. Many of these fraudulent emails will make claims that you must confirm some sort of information on your account by clicking on a link. Banks and online payment companies have been committed to never providing hyperlinks in their emails, therefore emails showing such links should immediately flagged as suspicious. If Helcim needs any information updated in your account, it will asked once you login to the site, and never make such request in any email.
