This week we're talking about entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship. I want to highlight the teams of people who are often working behind the founders of companies. These people may not be as widely recognized as an entrepreneur, but they are also working very hard to help them grow their companies.
There's a lot of focus on entrepreneurs these days. Most people can name famous entrepreneurs, like Steve Jobs or Elon Musk, who they find inspiring. I think the reason why there is such a spotlight on entrepreneurship is that more and more people want to start their own businesses and be their own boss. Watching other entrepreneurs succeed and build big successful businesses is inspiring for a lot of people who dream of one day doing the same.
I don't believe that there is enough focus on the people working behind the entrepreneur. The reality is that over time, even if the entrepreneur started off working on their own, as the company grows, it will eventually include a team of people. Ultimately, it's not a one-person effort, there is a whole group of people behind the entrepreneur helping them reach their goals.
Entrepreneurs aren't the only ones taking a risk when launching a new business. The team members who decide to join a startup are also taking a risk on the business. While they may have faith and a strong belief that the startup will be successful, there is no guarantee, and it is not as stable as, say, working for a large corporation.
The people who have joined the Helcim team have taken a risk by joining the team, the jobs aren't as comfy or cushy as the ones downtown, the hours can be long and demanding, and while we compensate as best we can, it's not always as lucrative as the big companies. I want to recognize that our people are taking a risk by choosing to join a startup, and this makes them entrepreneurs too.
Next time you think of an entrepreneur, don't just think of them, think about all the amazing people working behind them to help them build their companies.
