What is Visa Debit?
When the world of online payments was created, shoppers would have needed a credit card to make any purchase online. Using a bank account was simply too much risk for both the bank and the customer. Today, almost everyone with a bank account can now make online purchases using Visa Debit.
Visa Debit is a debit card operated by the Visa network and issued by banks across the United States and Canada. It allows customers to pay directly from their bank account while still providing all of the protection of a normal Visa credit card. Visa Debit customers can also shop online and over the phone using their debit card number.
Want to Accept Visa Debit Cards?
Visa Debit can open lots of business for your store. Visa Debit cards can be used in a retail environment (US), through a Virtual Terminal or even online. All of Helcim's merchant accounts support Visa Debit acceptance by default since 2015.
By accepting Visa Debit, everyone under the age of 18 (who are ineligible for a credit card), and those without credit cards can shop on your online store. If you don’t have an online store just yet, being able to accept debit visa can be an asset to your retail store.
Canadian Dual Cards
Many Canadian banks are now providing customers with specialty debit cards, that feature both Interac Debit for card-present (in-person) transactions, and Visa Debit for manual keyed (online) transactions. Both of these payment methods are featured on the same debit card, with the Visa Debit number displayed on the front of the card and the Interac Debit information on the card's Chip. This allows Canadian customers to take advantage of both Debit networks in the country, while still being able to show online with their cards.
