I was recently invited to speak on a panel for Innovation Rodeo at Bow Valley College where I got to speak alongside Graham Sherman, the Co-Owner of Tool Shed Brewing Company. Tool Shed is a local craft brewery in Calgary, and although the beer industry is very different from the payments industry, Graham and I shared some common challenges most entrepreneurs face.
Graham invited me and the Video Team to visit his brewery and chat about the entrepreneurial challenges and opportunities he has faced while building Tool Shed. Much like Helcim, Tool Shed came about because Graham and his partner were passionate about something and wanted to start a business around it. I can relate to many of the challenges they faced in the early days including, the long sleepless nights, struggling to delegate as the team grew, and finding sustainable ways to grow the business.
We had a great visit to the Tool Shed Brewery, everything in the brewery has a story attached to it, and it’s great to see how they are growing. If you’re ever in Calgary and are looking for great craft beer, make sure you stop in for a tour and a pint.
Getting out and connecting with other entrepreneurs and business owners in the city has been a goal of Helcim’s and mine this year. I’ve really enjoyed getting to meet great entrepreneurs, like Graham Sherman, who have built strong companies and have interesting stories. We’re always up for connecting and collaborating with new businesses so if you’d like to connect with Helcim, reach out to us anytime.
