When you’re choosing a credit card processor for your retail business, you also need to think about what type of point-of-sale (POS) setup will work best for your business along with what kind of equipment that would entail.
If your business requires credit card processing in person and will have some type of physical store setup, then you will need a point-of-sale (POS) to be able to process transactions for customers. Ultimately, you will be the one who knows what your business needs to run efficiently and what type of setup is going to work best. It’s important to take your time reviewing the available options on the market and asking for feedback from other business owners on what has worked best for them.
After years of working with business owners to determine the best setup for their needs and seeing the different options available in the marketplace, I wanted to share the five products I would choose for my ideal POS setup if I was shopping for a new setup.
- Socket Mobile Barcode Scanner
This scanner is functional and convenient to use as it reads most common barcodes and connects to Bluetooth enabled smartphones, tablets, notebooks, and desktop computers. A barcode scanner should help make it easy to manage your inventory and update item information when required. By selecting one that is Bluetooth enabled, it is easy to transmit information from the scanner to whichever device your business is using.
- 16” Metal Cash Drawer
I would choose a metal cash drawer over a plastic one for added durability and security. When choosing a cash drawer, it’s important to consider the number of transactions you intend to process each day to ensure you select a drawer that is large enough to accommodate the cash, cheques, and other items you need to store, and that it will be durable enough for everyday wear and tear. The drawer comes with a standard printer communication interface and a bottom exit cable that will be hidden from the customer's view.
- Thermal Printer
When selecting a printer, I would want to choose a piece of equipment that will print quickly and clearly so I can give customers a clear record of their purchase, and so my business also has a clear record of the transaction. This printer is also Bluetooth and Wi-Fi compatible making it easy to connect the printer to my point-of-sale app.
- iPad Air 9.7”
There is no need to spend the extra money on an iPad Pro, for most businesses an iPad Air 9.7” will do just fine. The important thing is that you want to choose a tablet that has enough processing power to be able to run the mobile applications your business needs, and one that you’re personally comfortable using.
- Heckler Design Case
You will want to protect your tablet from any potential damage, so choosing a case is important. I would go with the Heckler Design Case because it doubles as a stand while protecting your tablet and is tamper-resistant for additional peace of mind.
