Bottom up hiring.

Simply said, our default is hiring junior and providing development and growth opportunities from within. Many of our senior leaders joined the company in junior roles and have grown into new positions over time.

We trust people who are just getting started in their careers with a lot of responsibility and we know that they will make mistakes as they learn how to succeed in their new roles. For our bottom-up hiring approach to work, we put an organization-wide focus on ongoing learning and continuous mentorship.

FAQ.

  • How do I apply for a position at Helcim?

    First, we're excited to hear you want to work at Helcim! Online applications are the best way to get your resume in front of the right people, follow the instructions on our website and smash that "˜Apply Now' button.

  • I applied but I haven't heard anything, what's up with that?

    Due to the high number of applications we receive we're not able to respond to everyone, but we do encourage you to apply again if you see another position that interests you.

  • What does the interview process look like?

    We'll start most processes with a quick video interview to learn more about you and answer any immediate questions that you might have. This isn't a recruiter interview, you'll actually meet with either the Manager or one of your potential team members.


    From there most positions require the completion of a challenge related to the role, for Developer roles you'll be invited into the office to work through the challenge with members of our Development Team. Other departments will issue take home challenges that you can work on in your own time.


    Finally we hold an in-person interview with key team members you would be working with. Remember this is your chance to interview us too! We encourage you to come to the interview with any questions you would like us to answer for you.

  • How much vacation time do you offer?

    Vacation at Helcim starts at three weeks plus additional time off in December to rest and recharge.

  • What are your parental leave policies?

    To help launch our team members into this phase of family life we have some additional benefits in place including salary top for the birthing parents and a bonding break for non-birthing parents.

  • What is your health benefits program?

    Our health benefits program kicks in on day 1 and includes health, dental, and insurance coverage.

  • What does a first day at Helcim look like?

    Deep breaths, we know what it's like to have those first day jitters. Feel confident knowing we asked you to join the team because we saw the potential for you to be great at what you do and contribute to our team.


    At Helcim, we want to welcome you to the team and give you the knowledge you need to succeed. You'll most likely be joined by other new Helcim members who are also starting their career journey with us, together you'll go though our two week onboarding program as you learn more about our industry and your new position on the team. New team members join their managers and close team members for a first day lunch to give them an opportunity to socialize and ask questions outside of the more formal training sessions. The first few weeks can feel overwhelming, but everyone at Helcim is here to help support you as you go through the process.

  • Where's your office?

    Helcim HQ is located in the Eau Claire neighborhood in downtown Calgary. We're right next to the river valley with access to lots of pathways, restaurants, coffee shops, and transit options. Team members get to work by foot, bike, rollerblades, bus or CTrain, and car.
