The Challenge of Getting Employees Back to the Office
Since the pandemic, many companies have faced the ongoing struggle of getting employees positively engaged with return to office policies. We’ve heard countless records from our industry peers wrestling with these challenges, but we think we’ve developed an ingenious way to encourage Helcim employees to return to the office while maintaining the comforts of home.
Helcim's "Crazy" Idea
I remember how sweaty my palms were when I called everyone in on Monday morning to pitch this “crazy” idea to my colleagues: “We are going to let our employees “work from home” …at the office using VR headsets!”
I braced myself to be laughed out of the room, but instead, I could see the light bulbs going off in their eyes. It just made sense.
We’re calling it Helcim Remote-Remote Work. The initiative leverages cutting edge VR technology, and allows our employees to truly feel like they are conducting their work from home while physically being in the office.
From Pajamas to Productivity
The Helcim Remote-Remote Work innovation has been designed to retain and attract high-quality talent, while increasing employee satisfaction and productivity.
How does it work? It’s simple. You come into the office, put on your virtual reality headset, and voila! You’re transported virtually back to your home office, complete with your computer, your favorite coffee mug— even your dog interrupting your call in the background.
Each employee home is custom mapped, so Helcim Remote-Remote Work gives the true work-from-home experience…WHILE having people physically in the office to ensure higher rates of collaboration.
The more we looked at the logistics of this project, the more exciting this whole thing became. This initiative lets employees take board meetings from home or even their bed- all while in the office! We have many employees who are still embracing the little things like turning their mic and camera off and making a coffee during a video call— it all adds to the authenticity of the experience, so employees don’t miss the real thing.
The project is still new, so we have some instances of employees hitting things and spilling their water bottles in the hallway. But this adds that intangible collaborative ‘energy’ that comes with sharing the physical space of your colleagues and keeping that alive.
Overall, Helcim’s new initiative is a game-changer for the tech industry. So, if you’re an employee who misses working from home but wants to be in the office, Helcim Remote-Remote Work is just the thing for you. Just don’t forget your headset!
